Mission San Juan Bautista

I chaperoned a field trip for Hannah's class last week.  The school they attend has a great field trip program that allow them to go on a lot throughout the year.  It is a commitment from us parents, but there are always a few that I actually do want to go on.  Unlike the Trader Joe's field trip in 1st grade...please, I go on a field trip there multiple times per week.  Not gonna take a carful of first graders there too!  This was one of the ones I wanted to go on, a field trip to one of California's 21 missions.  I am a newbie to California history, but have been getting to learn a little this year through Hannah's class.  Originally, the Ohlone Native Americans lived on this land, then the Spanish came and built missions, then the Mexicans came and built ranchos, and then finally America.

This is San Juan Bautista.  South of where we live about an hour.

This is part of the original El Camino Real, far different than the modern El Camino.  The road they used to travel between towns.

I have more pics of some of the buildings and the beautiful architecture and craftsmanship, but they have her classmates in them.  So I can't post them!  From the few I do have up, you can see it is a beautiful place.

Loved spending time with my girl and got some really good insight into her days at school.  Bottom line: She is awesome!

Happy friday!
