Joel's first swim meet

Our swim meet season has begun.  We had our practice meet on saturday and let me tell you, I was counting down the days till it happened!!  Not because I love getting up at 6 am on saturday mornings, or being freezing cold in the morning despite it being SUMMER.  No, there has been some emotional drama regarding one of the above swimmers and we have been telling him that he is going to love the meets and he has to keep swimming till meet season starts!  Said swimmer is really CUTE (I mean look at that picture above!), but does not like to swim unless his preferred coaches are present.  His preferred coaches being female or male under the age of 22. Those coaches that do not fit that category he stubbornly refuses to get in the water for.  And things like, "Why did you sign me up for swim team?  How come Ava doesn't have to swim?  It's so BORING!" come out of his mouth in between sobs.  You're thinking it can't be the easy going Joel.  He's just so cool and calm.  Well, it's true, he is all of that, EXCEPT when you put him under the care of a male adult figure!!  Oh Lord, help us if he ever gets a male teacher.

Fortunately, he hopped right in and didn't hesitate the entire meet.  He was his hopping, happy, normal self and told me how much fun he had!

We gave him some extra care and attention because he was swimming all 4 strokes and frankly, I wasn't sure he even knew any of the other strokes.  But after a length of practicing backstroke and some hand motions for breaststroke he was good to go.

Calvin also had a great meet and was very concerned about his place after winning most all of his races last year.  We had to explain how he aged up and was swimming against kids older than him, etc.  I think he got it, but that competitive side is strong!

All smiles, fake and real, before the race!

 BUTTERFLY!!

 Killing me with cuteness!

Him smiling is all I really cared about!

Hannah rocking the 25 backstroke.  She also aged up and she got first!  I can't believe she might be a backstroker!

More smiles!

Hannah did her first IM!  She was very excited about it and did great.

These two.

Success to me was getting Joel to swim and we went above and beyond that measure!

Until next saturday!
