October inservice

Some schools get October break, we have a teacher inservice day each month that we do not have a break.  I kind of wish we had October break instead, but alas it is not up to me to decide.  :)  I knew exactly what we were going to do for our October inservice because we did it last year.  Sadly, our friends aren't around to do it with us anymore, but we still had fun!

I am still in go mode for my calendar and have finished carving 13/12 stamps (sometimes I get too excited before I measure!), but wanted to share the fun day we had yesterday!  Straight off my phone and camera...

We had a hard time finding small pumpkins as you can see!  I didn't want to spend $80 on pumpkins, but I also didn't want to carve (or make Mike carve) that much pumpkin.

Rodoni Farms just north of Santa Cruz.  Right across from lots of coastal farmland that must have just spread a lot of manure.  P.U.

Then we went to Natural Bridges to go to the beach, but I also wanted to see the monarchs first.  We missed them last year, but they are just arriving now and I didn't want to miss out again!  I heard that when it is warm, the butterflies are much more active and they sure were.  Very cool to have them flying all around us.

We got to see something similar to this in a telescope and the kids actually thought all of the butterflies were leaves.  Haha!

Then we headed to the beach.  It felt like summer, except the water was FRIGID!!  Never stops them.

Caught a monarch on the beach!

Went to see the tide pools and the tide was coming in!  This first wave totally scared us!

 Wave scout.

We waited for the big one!

Joel's leg lost to the mussels with this fall.

They were super helpful packing up with the hope of ice cream on the way home.

Not pictured:  The picture of me asleep in the driver's seat in the driveway when we got home.  Too much fun and sun at the pumpkin patch and beach!

Happy Tuesday!
