Spring is here

Well, Spring is here for the time being.  Next week there is more rain in the forecast.  I was hoping it was going to stay, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.  The sun came out this past sunday and we have been doing all the outdoor spring things.

First of all, look at our new backyard.  Not a single fruit tree in sight (reading that blog is going to have me in tears!).  Smaller, but still bigger than our neighbors.  And LOTS of weeds!!!!  This was after 2 hours of me working in the pouring rain on saturday and weeding the right side of the garden.  It was completely covered in weeds like the left.  In fact, the whole yard is a blanket of weeds, not exaggerating.  It's awful.  The thought to document the before and after came after I already started weeding and I was soaking wet. The differences are still going to be marked.  The amount of neglect is beyond me.

Changing weather led to an amazing sunset!  Our backyard has a great view of it!

Daisy chains!  The girls were all about them!

Actually, Joel was more into it.  The girls like me making them, Joel wanted to make his own.  He did the whole thing!

Baseball season started awhile ago, but there were so many rain outs it seems we have just begun.

I decided to tackle my potted plants situation.  I have been working hard to get them ready.  You can see the yard of weeds better here.  Now you know I wasn't joking about it being all weeds.  I wish I would have gotten a closer pic.

We also got a new lawn mower.  Californians do not do their own yard work.  Most people hire gardeners that mow, trim, and take care of the weeds by spraying the heck out of them.  Most rentals include it, but not ours.  I was not about to fork out $100/month when we are perfectly capable.  Plus, we don't have them spray anyway, so I end up doing a lot of work!  Lastly, Mike forgot how much he LOVES to mow the lawn.  I was the one who convinced him it wasn't worth it to pay a gardener and I was the one who volunteered to do the mowing, but I'm so glad he remembered how much he loves to do it.

It was also time for the kids to learn!  Front yard grass looking good...all about that curb appeal!

   They all love it!

  It's already starting to die!!

I tried to take one today, but it just isn't the same as what it once was.  That's a good thing of course!

Happy Spring!

  1. Um, who has a husband who loves to mow the lawn? You two really are a match.
