Big Basin Redwoods

Saturday morning we made a last minute decision to go see the Redwoods.  I literally was planning on doing absolutely nothing, but our last little hike was quite rejuvenating.  This little hike certainly was too, but the drive there was a long and windy haul.  We were more prepared for the weather this time, but I was under prepared with food.  Thankfully, I grabbed a bag of pretzels on the way out the door and scrounged the food I keep in the car for situations such as these.  Applesauce and pretzels make a tasty lunch when you're hungry!!

Big Basin Redwood State Park, deep in the Santa Cruz mountains.

As we were driving into the park, I told the kids we needed to try and all hold hands and see if we could make it around a big redwood.  That stuck with Hannah and she kept asking if she could hug one on her own.  I don't know what kind of tree this is, but she could do it!  On the big ones, there is no way, but we managed to circle up and do a wave around one of the younger trees.

Calvin is growing his hair out on top so he can do a pony!  We can certainly tie it up, but it's not the best look ever.  We're almost there.  Hoping to get through this "bad hair cut" looking stage soon!

There are tons of trails and more to explore another day!  As well as lots of places to camp on the way up to the park, so maybe a spot for us to go when the weather warms up.

Happy trails!  And happy first monday back!
