Weaving wednesday

Last summer, before we went on our road trip up to Portland I asked Mike to make me a loom so I could weave on our drive up.  Goodness forbid, I just sit in the car and do nothing with my hands.  Little did I know I would super busy cleaning up after the kids the whole time!  I digress.  I started this project last June and it's been chilling on the loom ever since.  It was my friend's birthday a couple weeks ago and this was a perfect gift for her so I finally got my butt in gear and went to work.

I had heard that woven wall hangings were becoming popular before I ever saw one and I thought there is NO way.  Then I saw one in Charleston, and I got it.  Beautiful things these are.  Mine is lacking, but it was my first!!  Everything I learned, I learned from this blog and upon search of it, it appears there are more blogs on weaving from them and also a book.  I used to follow their blog closely, but I stopped a while back when I did one of my blog fasts because it was making me covet their seemingly glamorous life.  I have grown up a little since that time and realize that is not the life I want.  I still don't follow it, more for lack of time to search blogs, but every now and again I will end up on their site and get lost!

The fun thing about weaving is you can kinda fake it till you make it.  Totally my style of DIY.  I made some serious mistakes that made it way harder to do.  I think the moral of the story is to not try to make your own design the first time, or at least don't go back and try to fix it.  The back was a mess and not so beautiful because of my mistakes, but that's not the side that matters!

This loom might sit at my feet a while longer, it might not.  I have high intentions with all of my projects and I hope to dust it off again soon!

Some weaving eye candy:

Happy Wednesday!
