Fruit friday | Passion fruit cocktail
This one will be short; in stark contrast to last friday! The last passionfruit hit the ground just over a week ago and I am holding on to it just a tad longer. I know I've blogged about this plant a lot lately. Mostly because of how interesting and exotic it is, but also because it is another tie to my Hawaiian heritage. ;)
I also thought you might want to see one up close. The inside is mostly seeds. Just a small amount of juice, but boy is it fragrant! Cut inside and it brings me straight to the islands.
And if you don't want to just eat it, you can put it in a cocktail! I have all of this growing in my garden and I thought it might make something tasty! Buuuut I never tried.
However, at Ava's birthday party, I put the passion fruit out near our drink station and someone created the most wonderful cocktail! That's why I am holding onto the last two passionfruit. I will have them for that special occasion that I need this drink. And I will savor it! If you don't have passionfruit in your backyard, they are worth purchasing at the store for this drink! I am going to give you approximate measurements and you will have to embrace trial and error with me. I mean c'mon, by now you know how I roll!
1/2 passion fruit, seeds and juice straight into the cup
2 1/4 oz. Belvedere vodka
~1/2 oz. simple syrup
1 squeeze of lime
2 to 4 ounces of Izze apple soda (It's just what we happened to have nearby, and he didn't measure he just poured some on top. So start with 2 and pour more to taste.)
All the ingredients poured over ice and stirred!
I'm telling you. New fave drink! And if I perfect the recipe, I will change it here!
