Elephant seals

We took off late monday morning on a little adventure to see the elephant seals.  We arrived at Ano Nuevo State Park, half way in between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz along the coast, only to find out that the next available tour was almost 2 hours away.  It was a 2.5 hour tour and that put us way beyond nap time.  So we made our way back out onto the highway and found a little trail that lead us straight to the beach and had access to a trail along the bluff.  We were happy that we missed that tour!

Coincidentally, a trio of elephant seals were sunning on this little beach.  Notice one of them bottom right.  It was really stinky, there were a TON of bugs, the seals are large and a little odd, but it sure was breathtakingly beautiful!!

Mike wouldn't get near them enough for a size comparison.  So my brave Hannah did for me.  Immediately after this pic while I was walking toward the other children with my back to this seal, it let out some other worldly sound and it scared me so bad I almost peed my pants.  It was so funny!

Watching them worm around to move was quite the sight.  We got to see this one venture back into the ocean.  So cool!

I was actually not feeling that great after getting home from Portland and I still have a lingering cough, but breathing in that fresh ocean air was so good.

Happy thursday!
