Seattle trip

Soon, I will not be sipping my daily cup of chai from my Seattle mug during nap time, but actually soaking in the Seattle skyline in real life.  One week from now we will be driving up to Portland en route to Seattle for 2.5 weeks.  "We" includes my dad, who is flying down next tuesday to help drive us up, myself, and the kids.  Mike is meeting us up there later.

I am super worried about the drive and have yet to be excited about the fun we are going to have.  I think I just have to get up there first to be ready to have fun.  It's mostly Ava that I'm worried about.  It's going to be hard for all of the kids, but I know that as a last resort they will watch a movie.  I've solicited some ideas from others about what to bring for her, but if you have more, PLEASE SHARE!  Pretty, pretty please!

  1. This might be a horrible idea but my neighbor puts the kids in the car at 3 am and has them sleep for the first couple hours of the trip. Also, my second cousins - also family of 6 - used to drive from Spokane to San diego every summer. They would use movies on a portable dad and stop at fast food play areas. (They'd pack lunches but just get ice cream at McDonald's or whatever. ) just think, you can do anything for 10 hours and then it will be done; that was my mantra on the 20 hour flight home from Germany with crosby sans Paul. You can do it.

  2. Oh boy, I certainly don't envy you the drive up here (though I can't wait to see you guys!!).
My friend who did a long trip with kids made a little game for their toddler using little puff balls made out of yarn and then had a paper cup with a lid that she cut a hole out of on the top. The game was to fill the cup with the little fuzzy balls. It will only last so long, but it would be something that Ava could easily do by herself (or with Hannah coaching her). Another thing that Heidi likes to do is stickers. Any of the kids could help her with taking stickers off a page and then having Ava put them on a plain sheet or in a notebook or something.
Pinterest probably has way more ideas too
