Joel's cast

We had Joel's follow up appointment at the orthopedist last friday.  I was really hoping that his elbow injury was going to be a minor one.  We have a lot of swimming left to do as well as family pictures to be taken, preferably without a cast!  (We already have family pics with a cast!)

The good news is that it does seem minor.  When we took the splint off and watched Joel move it, use it, play with Ava in the office, it was clear that he wasn't in a lot of pain.  The doctor was not convinced it was in fact broken, but he also told me two things.  He couldn't tell me 100% that it was not broken and there was NO way we could tell him to be careful with it.  If it was in fact broken and he hurt himself again, he could do serious damage that could potentially require surgery and pins and we have been down that road and don't want to do it again!

So he suggested we cast it for 2 weeks to be safe.  He gets it off the day before his birthday!

Getting a cast on is exhausting work!

Wanted to get a few pics of him with his cast.  He saw the camera come out and he was not excited about it!  That and he forgot he liked pesto and we were having pesto orzo with dinner.

The pouts have been real lately.

But it's also really easy to get a smile out of him!!

I was a stickler about kids signing his cast.  I could just envision the kindergarteners in his class that write their 8 letter names across the entire cast in all caps and then realize they mess up and cross some off and start again.  And then that's on his cast forever!  You can see there was a mess up on Calvin's W that I was not present for.  I remind him every time, make sure you tell them to write small!!!  Thank goodness for Ava, who has made sure to be my voice.  It has turned out just fine.

Can't take out the camera without someone wanting pictures taken of her!  :)

Happy wednesday!
