Labor day
We had a wonderful 3 day weekend. Saturday we did NOTHING. No. Thing. Outside of the house that is. It was 109 degrees. We were supposed to take family pictures. That would have been a total bust. Can you even imagine? We watched football all day, I went through an enormous amount of paperwork, and it was just what we needed. Sunday was only supposed to get to 100, whew!! I went for a walk at 7:15 in the morning and there were SO many people out. That night we went over to a friend's house to play in their pool.
Monday we made a last minute decision to go to the beach. I was a little nervous to go since it was clear that the weather was changing and usually that means wind at the beach. I checked the surf forecast and it wasn't supposed to be windy. We got to the beach and it was warm and not windy, but it was really overcast and after about 45 minutes it started to rain! It rained for a solid 30 minutes and we ate lunch and hunkered under our umbrella. I got a few shots in first!!
The rain cleared, but it didn't look like the sun was going to come out anytime soon so we decided we should just head to the pool and jump in the hot tub.
The pool was empty!! We traded the rainy beach for a windy pool!!
To round out the Labor Day festivities, we went straight from the pool to Urgent care. What I haven't told you yet, is that on sunday at church, Joel fell funny on his arm in the bounce house and was in a lot of pain that afternoon. Got home, gave him some ibuprofen and arnica, he took a nap, woke up crying and said his thumb hurt. We were nervous he was going to say it was his arm, but it was his thumb... Went to our friends, he swam the whole night long, didn't complain one bit about his arm. Went to the beach yesterday, he dug in the sand, jumped in the waves, went to the pool, swam freestyle with both of his arms, did flips and other silly things off of the board while he yelled "execute!", and then all of a sudden he couldn't use his arm anymore. He did some one arm freestyle, wouldn't let us straighten or bend it, wouldn't use it and then we realized something was really wrong with it. Urgent care is right near the pool, so I had Mike drop us off to get it evaluated.
A couple hours, lots of waiting, and some X-rays later, he has a splint on and has signs of an elbow fracture. Waiting to hear from the orthopedist about our next steps, but last night at 9pm, I was sewing another splint for another one of my children. Let's just say there will not be any splints in my Etsy shop anytime soon. Or ever. Haha!
Happy tuesday!
