Wodfest 2013
It was a beautiful day in Seattle yesterday!
We spent the whole day at Gasworks for Mike's first individual CrossFit competition called Wodfest. He was very anxious and excited for the day and he did amazing! It was fun to see him in his element and also get to be outside in the sunshine versus inside of a gym.
Basically, there were 4 workouts that he had to do and depending on his place he could advance to a final at the end of the day. I'm getting better at understanding the workouts and names of the movements, but like swimming jargon is to most people, his CrossFit jargon is a lot of jibberish to me. I'll show some pics of the day instead (there's a lot!).
There was some medicine ball squats and double unders.
There was some beast mode sled pulling and running up gasworks hill (twice!) with a sandbag.
Then, Mike's favorite and strongest workout was the max snatch. He PR'd twice and ended up with 220 lbs. as his max. He was pretty pumped to say the least. It was just what he needed to have energy for the rest of the day.
Then there was 3 rounds of wall balls, toe touches, and overhead squats for the 4th workout. After those 4 workouts, he was in first place! So he went on to the final.
He had to do incline pushups, a power clean/hang clean thingy (very technical term), sumo deadlifts, and burpee bar taps to end the day. At the end of it all, he placed 2nd and we were very proud of him!
The kids also were amazing. They loved cheering for him and watching him compete. We had planned to go home to take naps, but he was doing so well I didn't want to leave! After they got through the super tired crazy stage, they kind of became slap happy and trooped it out the rest of the day. It helped that we were at a park and could explore and wander.
This was our car ride home.
Mike is currently sun burned and has sore legs, but otherwise doing great! And me...well, I am less than a week out from my due date! The craziness of this past week did not put me into labor despite everyone worrying that it would. Next up, Hannah getting her hard cast. After that, I'm free to go into labor at any time!

WOWZA!!! I'm just seeing this now but soooo amazed at Mike. Hollyyyy MOL-ey! He is amazingly strong! I love crossfit, (still have never done it but back in Seattle, I'd love to try it). Our friend Tara (remember her? Tara Ryan?) was getting really into it last year too, before pregnancy with her new little guy. She loved it too. From what I've seen, it's completely addicting and quite possibly, produces the strongest athletes on earth.
ReplyDeleteHe is addicted for sure. Sadly, we left a great gym in Bellevue, but we are close to the home of crossfit down here. I like it, but have never loved being inside of a gym. Outside running, biking, or swimming is what I would prefer. However, crossfit would be amazing cross training to any of those three I mentioned. He is crazy strong, I am happy to put 10-15 lbs. on each side of the bar and be good. :)
