Snapshots of our weekend

The weekend was jam-packed as usual.  Nap time today was nap time for all, so I'm blogging tonight!

Saturday morning was soccer.  I ended up coaching because the head coach was out of town.  I don't do much besides blow the whistle when the ball goes out and when a goal is scored.  One time, I blew the whistle when I thought a goal was about to be scored, but it never went in.  After I blew it, I just said, "Oops, didn't mean that, keep playing!"  Haha.  I was cracking myself up.  Then, there was a goal where the ball just barely crossed the line and was kicked back out and I didn't call it.  This mom was yelling at me and telling me there was a goal.  I just ignored her and then said, "We're going to just keep playing."  Haha.  This age and this league is so chill, I mean, half the girls run on and off the field during the game, do ballet leaps as they run to the ball, or would rather play in the long jump sand pit nearby.  This Saturday the game was early which was nice because then we had time to do something afterward.

We decided to go to Happy Hollow.  Mike hadn't been yet because I have been avoiding weekend crowds.  I'm glad we went because it actually wasn't bad at all.  The first thing we did was ride the roller coaster.  The kids could not wait to go on it with Mike.  Calvin went first.

Calvin just loves it and smile and giggles the whole time.

Hannah talks a big game.  :)  She likes it too, but as you can see she does not smile and giggle like Calvin.  Love this.

The goats were much less aggressive this time.

Calvin even fed them.  Of course only with his daddy nearby.

During nap time on Saturday I slaved away at preparing "all natural" dyes for coloring eggs.

Blueberry, carrot, blackberry, turmeric, beet, spinach, and red cabbage juice.

I did a little research on different things people use to color eggs, but in typical Lindsay fashion, I did not follow any recipes and just went for it.  Hence, the different amounts of dye in each of those mason jars above.  I added vinegar to all of the juices to help the color stay.  Unfortunately, the carrot juice and spinach that I just juiced but did not boil, separated/coagulated after I added the vinegar and did not color the eggs at all.  Next year, I might try to cook them too or just not add vinegar.

The kids were eager to take the eggs in and out of the dyes so some of the eggs are pretty light.  I snuck a few eggs back in after they were done and let them sit while we ate dinner and the colors became much richer.  All in all, a success!

Easter baskets

After church we picked up our friend, Rani, from SCU and had a late lunch.  She helped us make resurrection rolls and played with the kids while we made lunch.

They turned out yummy, but sadly the marshmallows did not completely melt.  I think I might have not put them in at a high enough temp.  Anyway, the good news is that the real tomb was empty!!  :)

She found a "golden" egg.  Coins inside!

He found the biggest "golden" egg and was quite proud.

This is Joel's scared/terrified cry-scream.  If you look closely you can see a bee that was in his basket, it must have smelled the gummy bears inside the eggs.  This is him when any insect, bug, bird, or animal gets close.

After naps we hung out outside before heading in for the evening to watch a movie and have a very simple dinner.  We were all exhausted from the festivities of the weekend.

Hand me down Tonka trucks that the kids are LOVING.

Sweet and smiley as always.

Hope you had a nice weekend too!
