Swimming in the ocean

We hit the beach last weekend to play and I was also hoping I could go swim in the ocean.  I am doing a triathlon at the end of the month and I haven't swam swam in this ocean.  Only played here and I was a bit nervous to get out too far by myself.  Open water swimming is a whole different ball game and I have done a fair share in the lake, but the non-Hawaiian ocean is new and scary to me!  Especially since we see sea lions and dolphins out there all of the time too.

You can't tell here, but the waves were crazy big and crashing hard and I was WAY too scared to go out in them.

The lifeguards had advisories and flags all up and down the beach.  Kids were only allowed to go in ankle deep is what the lifeguard told all who went near the water over the bullhorn.

Certainly didn't stop them from having fun, but I was not going in to practice.  Plus, it was windy and quite chilly and the last thing I wanted to do was get in the water.

 Fast forward to today.

My dad is in town for a half ironman this sunday and we hit the beach so he could get in the water and pick up his packet.  It's been hot all week, the water was warm and super calm, and I did my first and only practice swim in the ocean with him and his friend.  I have so much more confidence getting such a good swim under my belt.  Now, two fingers crossed for the ocean being perfect like that again on race day!

We went on a little mission to find Joel's flip flop that he buried.  That boy.

Hit up the arcade on the boardwalk.  Talk about stimulation overload!!

Happy friday!!
