Springy things

I know Spring isn't officially until next monday, but it will be raining here and since all of the other signs of spring are currently happening I thought I would share.  Blooming and buzzing and a big pile of dirt!  (Another fun spring thing, the FUN, cheery clothes.  Not that I am buying them, but definitely eyeing some pieces!)

We have LONG needed this dirt delivery.  Last year I said nothing about my garden probably because my garden FAILED me.  I am not kidding when I say that there were a number of plants that I planted that I kept alive all summer, but did not grow.  Not only did they not produce fruit, they did not grow taller or wider or deeper!!  We did a major dirt excavation from our garden boxes, well, Mike and the kids did, this winter so we could get new dirt.  They spread the bad dirt around the yard where there were exposed watering hoses and such.  I am re-weeding these areas now after a rainy winter and the dirt is like concrete.  It is no wonder my plants did terrible.  We just ordered 7 yards of a dirt and compost mix that hopefully will redeem my veggie garden dreams.

After the dirt was delivered, I wanted to show Mike the size pile and had Ava stand next to it.  The pile was actually taller than her and it goes a bit back.  It is a lot of dirt!!  And if you didn't notice before, the tree behind her has been showing off the past week.

And I can't help but take pictures of it!  I otherwise do not love this tree, but it's beautiful right now!

I think I mentioned it last year with the buzzing bees.  You can hear them alright!  I love re-reading my blogs and I just read that one from this time last year.  It's funny that I was just talking to Mike this morning about how things are so much "easier" this year, even with the busyness.  Our spring is different than last and is very busy, but I am not feeling frantic and overextended by any means.  I don't know if it is just because the kids are one year older and more independent, self-reliant, less needy, but I am thinking it is a big reason and am thankful.  As much as I want to hold onto their littleness, maturing is a wonderful thing.  A little tangent for you.

Mike worked all weekend on filling the boxes.  I helped some. The kids helped a little too.  However, we still have a large amount of dirt in the driveway to shovel!  In the meantime, we already planted some leafy greens hoping to get the last bit of cold weather veggies in.

Stay tuned!
