Throwback to 10 years ago | NYC 2007

Before we had kids, we did a little bit of traveling.  This week we are going back exactly 10 years ago.  In April 2007, during spring break at the school I was working at, Mike took me to New York.  I had been previously with my mom and sister 3 years earlier and spent one night in the city on a layover.  But I'll go to NYC again and again!  I am so thankful that we got to do these things and look forward to taking our kids (hopefully!) and then doing it again just the two of us.

It was a really fun trip, we stayed with some family who had a house in New Jersey.  So we got to do the whole commute into the city, which was about 25 minutes if I am remembering right, as if we were locals.  I am probably not remembering correctly, and definitely don't remember the order of what we did on the trip because it was 10 years ago, but it was also the beginning of preggo brain and mom brain!!  I was only 10 weeks pregnant with Hannah and still in the THICK of first trimester exhaustion and nausea.  I just wanted to sleep and eat.  I would sleep on the bus into the city, sleep on the subway, I even slept during the intermission of The Producers!!  And I wanted to EAT!!  All the time, get me some food!  There may or may not be a video of me devouring an entire California roll right outside of the restaurant on a sidewalk somewhere in NYC.  It was a bummer to be feeling so cruddy, but looking back I have very fond memories.

We did some exploring with the couple and their 6 month old baby on the weekends and we did a lot of exploring on our own.  I remember the first day after we got in it was Easter sunday, they decided we should drive into the city, we walked around Central Park and it started snowing, and then we had the most amazing lunch at a Japanese noodle house.  When we left, I remember Patrick paid something outrageous for parking like $50, I'm probably exaggerating, but I was floored.  And all I thought was, Welcome to New York!

In some fancy boutique specialty market that were everywhere!  I love these little markets, even when I'm not pregnant and always hungry!

HAD to visit the set of The Today Show because I used to watch it whenever I could!

 Times Square

Boat ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Lots of walking and found myself somewhere to sit my tired self down!!  Also, lots of waiting for public transportation!

I believe this is somewhere in Brooklyn (I think!).  On the last day of our trip, we went to Brooklyn and this fancy garden and ate some delicious Italian food nearby where we were introduced to an affogato for the first time.  Life changing moment.

What a fun trip!!  10 years seems like a long time!  For everything we have done in the past 10 years, this trip seems like more than a lifetime ago.  Until next time, New York!

Note:  After writing this whole blog and all of the uncertainties I had about when and where (emphasis on where), I looked in my pregnancy journal to see if what I was saying was true.  Haha, the scientist in me likes to keep the facts straight.  So, from my brief updates of NY in my pregnancy journal, we did go to  Brooklyn on the last day.  We went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  Those wide panning shots from way up high were from "The Top of The Rock."  Must see!!!  I also wrote a lot about where we ate and how good it was.  Thinking back, we did eat a lot of good food and I don't think it was just because I was pregnant.  I want to go back just to eat!  I also wrote a lot about the little 6 month old we got to hang out with and I mentioned how great it was to be around a baby seeing as we were 7 months out from having one of our own.  It was a wonderful experience for us and gave us serious peace of mind.  Not to mention, we probably asked a million questions!

Happy thursday!
