Busy and random
I had such a fun and productive weekend, with not much in the way of pictures to show for it. Saturday was completely packed the entire day, but everything was so much fun. First, it was Hannah's soccer game and the rest of the morning I was determined to do Halloween costumes. It dawned on me Friday afternoon that Halloween is only two weeks away and the boys kept coming up with the silliest things to be. Gumball, gumball machine, juice box, need I say more? I decided to get serious and scavenged my fabric scrap cupboard and somehow mustered up some ninja turtle costumes. This is my whole "crafty pantry" philosophy in action. I was happy to buy and not make this year, but somehow that didn't happen. The costume debut is less than two weeks away, so be excited. :) I quickly finished those up before having to head to a baby shower.
This is the first baby shower I've been to in a long time that was not mine! :) My sweet friend is having her third and it has been so fun watching her be pregnant from afar. Pregnancy is so INCREDIBLE!! Obviously I know what it's like, but seeing it happen one week at a time has been so eye-opening for me.
After the shower I raced home because we had our Santa Clara friends, Rani and Andrew, and Rani's sister and cousin over for dinner. I had already prepped dinner that morning, so we just had to throw the Chicken Marbella in the oven and whip up the sides and dessert. Have I ever mentioned how much we love these kids? They are seriously the best! We also have a tradition of doing a garage workout with them after the kids go down for the night and this time all of the girls joined in. So fun!
Sunday we went to church and relaxed the day away. I was able to craft and restock the shop a bit. I prepared our new favorite sunday dinner, my home version of a ramen we had in Japantown. Udon noodles in a miso broth with spicy ginger garlic ground turkey, and an egg and some veggie on top. YUM!
But most of all, I loved the beginning and end of this weekend where I got to spend some much needed one-on-one time with my two oldest. Friday night, Hannah and I had a little date night. She had been wanting new cowgirl boots since she had grown out of her first pair. She also wants to be a cowgirl for Halloween, so when I saw some at Nordy's I thought it would be fun to take her out to get them. I am fortunate that Hannah tells me a lot about her day, but something about being alone allows her to tell me more. It is such a sweet time.
Sunday night, I made an impromptu grocery store run and decided to take only Calvin along. That boy was the cutest ever! Chatty McChatterson talked my ear off the entire time and I was loving it. As I wheeled him in the cart (he loves sitting in the cart since he usually walks), he kept leaning over and giving me the biggest hugs and saying, "I love you, Mom!" It was seriously so cute! We know that his love language is quality time, but this trip sure sealed the deal. Practically undivided attention just for him, his tank is full.
My heart is full! These two dates, planned or impromptu, were exactly what I needed this weekend.
Hope you had a fun weekend too!
