Breakfast for dinner
Yesterday we had a super busy day, starting with getting to church early since I was working in Sunday school and then having some out of town guests over for lunch immediately after church. I woke up early to make a soup for lunch and also made chilaquiles for breakfast (way too ambitious of a breakfast for this particular morning). We had to scramble out of the house to get to church by 9 which meant the breakfast and the dishes were all still left on the table when we left. I knew that we would have no time to clean it up before they came over after church. It made me cringe a little bit, but you just have to let some things go and not be the perfectest hostess all of the time. Easier said than done, but fortunately our guests are some of the most laid back and casual people we know and so I just didn't let it get to me. When we got home from church, one soup was done, but wasn't enough for all of us so I made another one while Chrissie cleared our breakfast dishes and loaded the dishwasher. I'm telling you, these people are great. All that is the long way of saying that come dinner time, I took a pass. Which meant Mike made waffles for dinner, and I had some leftover soup too.
The kids were all in excellent moods and played together all day so very nicely. It continued on into dinner when Hannah was "Mama" (they actually were calling her that) and helped them all with spreading of peanut butter or butter or cutting or whatever they needed. It was quite cute to watch.
Then our waffle maker decided to break. Sparks flying and all, right in the middle of the second batch. Which meant the first 4 were the only ones cooked right and since we have 4 children, us parents didn't get any. Wah! :) Hannah was brave enough to try one of the second batch.
Soggy, undercooked waffles. Not a hit. Joel wouldn't even try one. In his words, "they're too grumpy!"
It was a perfect end to our very busy day and weekend. Patio dining is one of those things in life that makes me so happy. It's so relaxing too. Except for when one of your children chuck a fork at another one of your children during lunch on the patio. Yeah, that happened today at lunch. Not a proud moment.
Didn't mean to end on a sad note after such a fun and funny way to end our weekend, but I'm all about reality here. However, hoping that fork-throwing is not common life here.
Have a great week! It's spring break for us!
