Baby blocks

Before we left for Seattle, I was feverishly working on two sets of baby blocks to gift on our trip.  After school got out, I realized that I only had two weeks before my sister's baby shower and I didn't even have the wood I needed to get started.  That meant some late nights painting, but it was important to me to give these in person.  And anything for baby Candy.  :)

Way back in 2006 when I wasn't even pregnant with Hannah, I had this idea to make blocks for school.  I have no idea what I was going to use them for in school, but it turns out that they make great baby toys.  I was a lot more meticulous with my paintings that first set since I wasn't planning on making more, but they became such a hit that I started gifting them to my friends for their first babies.  I have now officially retired as these are a LABOR of love.

Mike cuts the wood, helps me sand, and paints the base coat.  I paint the little design on each side, the letters, and then each picture.  Mike finishes with a varnish.

Of course the pictures I paint are tailored to me...sea life, Hawaii, and summer.  Some have asked if I am going to put some in my shop and I have to say that I don't think anyone would pay enough for it to be worth it for me.  However, I do have some ideas floating in my head for a smaller set, and less pictures.  Lately, I have been crafting on a need basis or under a time crunch.  So, we'll see if said set ever gets made.  I would really like it to, but only time will tell.

Have a great weekend!
