Birthday beach day

Yesterday was my birthday.  32.  Age is such an important thing to our kids right now.  Usually within the first couple of sentences of re-acquainting or meeting someone new they are asking how old they are.  Young or old.  I was kind of sad about turning 27, a little scared to turn 30, and now I have the kids to keep track of my age.  I certainly am not thinking about it.  It's interesting how things change over the years.  At the same time, many things don't.  Sunshine, water, and the Nordstrom anniversary sale have been defining my birthdays for as long as I can remember.  And this year, I was not disappointed!

We went to Santa Cruz yesterday.  It was forecasted to be quite hot in the valley and I made an amateur move and did not look at the weather for the beach.  As we drove into the socked in clouds, the temperature kept dropping 65, 64, 63.  I was super  nervous we were going to just have to turn around, I didn't even bring sweatshirts for the kids.  Fortunately, it was actually warm and humid so we were out in the waves right away and the sun came out for us a little later.

The tide was in a bit more than the last time we were here and the waves were roaring and crashing onto the rocks.  It didn't allow for much comfort in turning our backs to look for crabs in the tide pools.  Calvin was on lookout.

She got soaked by a sneaker wave!

"Show me your curls, Ava."

I'm thankful for another year because I know they aren't promised.  To add icing on the cake, we had our favorite meal for dinner and peach cobbler for dessert, compliments of Mike, and I haven't been that full in a long time.  It was a good day!

Have a great weekend!
