A fun birthday

It's official folks.  I am 30.  I didn't have any severe aversions to this age, unlike when I turned 27.  Fortunately, I mostly still feel young, in my prime, and excited about life.  I guess that's a pretty good place to be.

Yesterday was really a perfect day for me.  I woke up early to go swimming, went to the beach with the kids, and spent the evening adventuring with my family (and the kids were all happy!).  It was relaxing because we had plenty of time to do everything and so much fun because the kids were so excited about everything we did.

Mike came home early and after the boys were up from their naps we headed over to our beloved Seattle.  We grabbed black bean quesadillas and salsa at Pecado Bueno for the kids.  Someday it will be fun to dine-in there, it reminds me of an Austin Tex-Mex hot spot, with outdoor patio seating.  Very alive and happenin'.  We also grabbed sandwiches for Mike and I from Paseo, a Caribbean restaurant, that I had been wanting to try for a long time.  It is a tiny place, but it makes up for it's size in flavor.  Wow!  The sandwiches were incredible.  A bit indulgent.  Mike and I could have split one.

We took our dinner to the Locks and had a private picnic on a lawn surrounded by a lush garden.  It was perfect!  Mike and the kids shared their cards with me after dinner and I asked that they take one picture with me to remember the day.  We have had great success with pictures at the Locks this year!

Joel was stealing Calvin's quesadilla.  Look at him watch for Mike's reaction.  Calvin was clueless.  :)

After dinner they went exploring.  Well, Joel stood back to make sure it was safe.

After our picnic we visited the fish ladder to see the salmon returning to Lake Washington.  That was so fun to watch and the kids loved it too!

We watched from above as well.  We even saw a couple of fish jump to the next "pool" (not sure what it is called).  It was very impressive!

Hannah had to hold Calvin so I could see his face.  Wasn't going for this look, but couldn't resist sharing his silliness.

So we tried again without that "wittle boy."

This is how we roll.  (We get a lot of looks--smiles, stares, smirks.)

Finally, we headed to UVillage for treats.  We all shared one cupcake and a little frozen yogurt.  We were just so full!

A great start to my thirties, indeed!
