Wishes for Wackers
I don't know about you, but for me there is a lot of nostalgia surrounding my birthday. Besides the fun party things you can do in the summer (hello slip 'n' slide!) and the Nordstrom anniversary sale (yes, please!) always starting right around my birthday, there will always be another thing that reminded me that my birthday was coming soon.
This is a picture of me and my best friend, Jackie, at my murder mystery 18th birthday party in 2001. She has since passed away and today would have been her 30th birthday. We were born 4 days apart and we were proud of it!
Jackie was full of life, a sweet friend, and most of all kind. In honor of her today, her mom has asked her friends and family to participate in "Wishes for Wackers." (Wackers is her family nickname.) She has asked everyone to pass on some kindness, big or small. Some ideas were to make a sandwich for a homeless person, call an old friend, help someone in need, donate to your favorite charity, help an elderly person with their bags, donate food to the food bank, surprise someone with a nice gesture, anything that will make you smile along with the person you surprised with kindness. Jackie would have loved this and I know that her mom would love honoring Jackie in this way. Her mom has also decided to do something special every day for a year to honor her daughter.
I know that some of you have no idea who this is and some of you have heard a little about Jackie from me. Regardless, would you join me in honoring my friend by participating in "Wishes for Wackers" today or some day soon? It would be so awesome if you shared what you did so I can pass it along to her mom who is going to create a book.
Thanks for listening, friends! It's a bittersweet day.
