Friday Harbor
Last friday we left bright and early to get to Friday Harbor for a whale watching tour. It was a little 30th birthday getaway, and just as the actual day itself went, it was perfect! I hadn't put a ton of thought into it, as I tend to go one day at a time these days, but when we got there everything seemed to be just up my alley.
We stayed at this charming bed and breakfast with blooming flowers all about, an edible garden, patio spaces, and cute white picket fences. It was really cute!
My sister and Randy came along.
The main event was the whale watching tour. Mike did this for me after I graduated from college. I was very excited to see some whales! There are lots of whale pictures, bear with me, they are my favorite animal after all!
You could hear them blowing out the water.
Saying hi!
Bye bye, orcas!
We also saw this minke whale. You knew they were around when the birds would all swarm to one place. Minkes are baleen whales and the birds feed on the same things, so they were all going for the food. They are long and have short fins. It came up and we never saw it again. I was so excited to see a new whale. I now have seen orcas, a minke, gray whales (off of a Cape Cod coast), and a humpback (from the beach on our honeymoon).
We did see other wildlife, like these seals. However, nothing really compares to the whales.
A plane came in for a landing as we made it back to the harbor. Behind it you can kind of see the UW labs that I visited when I was in college.
We had a hard time choosing where we wanted to go for dinner as the choices seemed endless to me. The place I finally ended up choosing was completely booked when we got there, so we went to another recommended spot not too far away. Cort and Randy were trying to make the blog here. There was lots of silliness on this trip!
We sat out on the patio for dinner which sounded like a good idea when the sun was out, but it quickly got cold. The dinner was still yummy!
Saturday morning after we had breakfast and packed up, Mike and I walked around town. There was a farmer's market going on and I had to explore it! We also found this amazing leather handbag shop and were in there for almost an hour. We ended up talking to the shop owner about education and Saddleback Leather bags amongst other things. However, the most exciting thing is that I have been looking for a crossbody bag and she is going to design one for me! More on that later.
A view of us and the harbor.
The cute town from the ferry.
Headed back to the mainland to pick up our kiddos who we started to miss!
It was a great 30th birthday celebration! Thank you, Mike, Cort, and Randy for an unforgettable trip!

Oh, these pics looks awesome! Glad you enjoyed your 30th despite being preggo! :) Happy birthday!!!
