Easiest project ever | Chalkboard frame

While many of you were enjoying (or enduring) the winter storms and snow, we were hunkered down inside because of the rain.  Unfortunately, the trees were tricked by the 70 degree week earlier in January and are blossoming now or have already done so.  I snapped a few of the said trees in our backyard.

Wet cherry blossoms are so "Seattle" to me.  I have spent countless springs wanting to go to UW's quad to see the blooming cherry blossoms only to have it rain and rain after they set to bloom.

I had some grand plans of getting a lot cleaned up and decorated this weekend, but I didn't really get the urge to do so until Sunday afternoon.  Sunday morning I was by myself (well, only Ava was with me, which is basically by myself) and found myself at Michael's.  They have this whole new (to me) section of wood cut-outs that gave me some serious inspiration for the kids' rooms.

Hannah and I got to work painting.  I didn't really think about how I would have to paint the inside of all of those cut-outs, but it's worth doing it well the first time.  Side note:  Calvin is obsessed with painting right now.  He LOVES to "make purple" and we are so thankful he has learned how to paint new things because we have A LOT of paintings of a red house with water and grass.

We painted a bunch of frames!  Some of them will be used for pictures or art in Hannah's room, some will be used for the kids' names to hang on their doors.  I found some chalkboard paper which I will use for the names.  The frame and chalkboard paper combo happens to be the easiest project ever!

Basically, I traced how big of a piece of chalkboard paper I needed, cut it out and glued it onto the painted frame.

To pretty it up a bit, I just glued a piece of scrapbook paper over the chalkboard paper.  I then glued and washi taped some ric rac on the back so the frame can hang.  You could also just stick it up on the wall and not hang it.  Both equally cute!

Voila!  Turn it over, write whatever in the center (erase it if you don't like it, cause it's chalkboard!), and you are done.  How easy AND cuuuuute, is that?!?!

I plan to do a couple more of these chalkboard frames for the boys and Hannah.

Now go to Michael's (if you the streets aren't too icy) and make some for yourself!

  1. I love wet cherry blossoms!

Awesome idea for the frames. Are they expensive? The kids are so cute painting!

    1. I meant to mention how inexpensive they were! The large one which is 11X14 is $7.99 and the little ones (4X6) were $2.99, and I happened upon the 30% off your entire purchase day. :) Serious score.
