Pink icing
Happy Valentine's Day! Here is a little bit of our day so far.
We made cookies for Hannah's class party last night. I was very proud of myself on these because of this pink icing. Read on.
I am not an anti-sugar mom, kind of can't be if I have such a sweet tooth. Everything in moderation so they can learn self-control is my MO. However, I am adamantly anti-processed/chemical-laden/pesticidal food. Pesticidal is my own made up word. Anyway, food coloring and food dyes are something I try my best to not buy, so I was very happy when I made this pink icing without Red 40 or whatever number comes in that little tube.
Pink Icing
juice of 1 blood orange, pulp strained
~2 cups of powdered sugar
1/2-3/4 tsp. of pure lemon extract
Ava sneaking a peek at the boys' cartoon.
I finished their mailboxes and thought they turned out cute so I had to show you.
Since Mike's parents are in town, I got to stay in Hannah's class for centers. Both am and pm kinders were at school in the morning and so there were 31 five and six year olds. I wish I could be in the class more, but I have many more years to be able to do that. I actually love this age at school and enjoyed spending time with these kids. When I worked at an elementary school, I loved the kindergarten teacher I worked with so much I had the thought that I might want to be a kindergarten teacher in my next life.
However, in this life, I can't think past today, so for now I send lots of love this Valentine's day!
I just sent your recipe to a friend who tries to avoid red40 like the plague. Apparently it's banned in europe so I planned on picking up some food coloring while over there - alas - Paul and I were too busy goofing around
