Our Spring Garden

So many of you were so enamored by my fruit post, I thought that a perfect way to usher in spring on the blog is to share what our garden is looking like right now.  A lot less fruit, but lots of signs pointing toward fruit in our future!

This is growing in one of the raised beds and I am seeing them all over other's yards in the neighborhood.  Very pretty!

Like our garden, I'll just sprinkle a little of the flowers from the yard about this blog post.

Mike struck gold.  Yukon Gold.  Har har!  He's been clearing out the weeds in the raised beds in the front and he found some potatoes.  We ate them and they were delicious!

The lettuce is coming up in the raised beds in the backyard.  We have lots of raised beds and you know we are going to take full advantage of them and the sun.

Mike's tomato seedlings coming up.

I am excited to know that it is less than likely that we'll have green tomatoes at the end of the season.  That was just the worst in Seattle!  All of that hard work and nothing to reap.  Not this year!  Since the beds are cleared, we can start planting soon!

Our delicious oranges that are finally fully ripe.  We were skeptical of them turning sweet, but they just needed more time!

I picked the rest of what I could reach.  Oranges are super cheap in the store, but nothing is cheaper than free.  :)

I also picked the rest of the meyer lemons that I could reach without getting pricked to death.  Man, this tree has some deadly spines!  Did you know that most citrus tress are thorny?  I didn't, until it was too late.  Ouch!  I couldn't believe this tree still had good fruit.  We did a big harvest in December and January.  I still have yet to experiment much with the preserved lemons I made, but the best part about preserving them is that they last for a while so there is no rush!  Anyway, you can see that there are already little buds on the meyer lemon tree.  More meyer lemons for next winter!

This fruit is new to me.  Haven't tried it yet, but we have a HUGE tree in the back full of them and a little tree in the front.  Anyone know what these are?  Last time I asked, you guys came through for me.  A belated thank you to you.

Last, but not least is the fig tree.  Leaves and figs are starting to grow.

The only problem is, I don't know how we are going to get them.  They are all so high up!!

I am sure they are worth climbing for.  Fresh figs, yes please!

And that is our spring garden.

Happy Spring!!
