Summer garden meal

My zeal for cooking up new things and/or cooking in general ebbs and flows each week.  I usually have to be inspired by something new I've tried at a restaurant or seen on a blog or tv that gets me experimenting.  Lately, I've gotten some easy inspiration from our garden.  The epitomy of eating local and fresh.

Summer kebabs with Asian marinated chicken, chicken sausage, onions, mushrooms, and plums from our backyard.  I would do it again, but wait for the plums to be a bit riper, the grilling brought out the tartness when I was expecting sweet.

Whenever we have leftover noodles I tend to make some lemon-basil parmesan noodles (butter noodles kicked up a few notches), this time I also tried it with spaghetti squash.  Let me save you an experiment and tell you to save the spaghetti squash for drenching with marinara, because that is good.  This style really wasn't so good, but definitely worth a try.

Last, but not least, our favorite summer garden salad.  Fresh tomatoes and cukes marinated in a basil-garlic vinaigrette.  Easy and so delicious!!

Just maybe I can inspire you to be creative in the kitchen!

  1. We've been doing a lot of zucchini noodles. Much like the spaghetti squash, skip the cheese (or carbonara) and just do a red or pesto sauce.
