Dried persimmons

I am on a quest to utilize the bounty of fruit as best as I can.  Mike picked as many persimmons as he could reach that we are wanting to make into jam, as well as try dried.

I used a mandolin to slice as many persimmons as I could fit on trays to oven dry.

After a long day, they dried down to barely anything.  They are pretty similar to dried mangos, but much prettier!

I guess people use them in cookies, cakes, and trail mix.  We will mostly snack on these and maybe try a persimmon recipe using fresh ones.  We might get to making the jam sometime too!

    1. It is so easy!!!! Evenly slice whatever you are drying (I used a mandolin), put it in the oven at 175, and let dry for many hours! Flip the fruit if you want to also. It really depends on how thick your slices are and if you want your fruit chewy or crispy. Mine were in the oven for about 8 hours. You just have to make sure the fruit is dried completely or it will spoil when left out. You can do this with fruit purees and make fruit roll-ups. Yum! Let me know what you try!
