Late Spring garden
This picture is from a month ago. Which means I've been meaning to update on our garden for a month.
This is today. It has grown a ton the past 4 weeks. |
Part of the reason I wanted to share last month was because we started seeing more fruit grow on trees that we didn't know were fruit trees. Like this plum. Unfortunately, the squirrels beat us to all of them except one. I think we are going to do major battle with the squirrels. Major.
They get our strawberries too! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
As for this mystery fruit, we lost out to a bunch of it too. However, our neighbor informed us that they are loquats and when ripe, they are quite delicious.
Last month these started appearing on at least 4 of our trees too.
Fast forward to today and they are turning bright orange. I see apricot jam in our future.
We would have had more apricots had 200 not been knocked off of the tree. 200! I guess watching them fall off of the tree as you hit it with the bat is entertaining. I was so mad.
Had I known that we had many, many more trees with branches dripping apricots, I probably wouldn't have cared.
We also have apple trees galore. This tree's apples are getting quite large too.
My Husky pot. It is doing well as most of the pots are. However, forget to water them one day and they let you know. Immediate droopiness.
The figs are still hanging out. Some are starting turn purple. I have no idea when these are ripe.
My basil plant is doing well.
The wildflowers are pretty.
As I was exploring the garden today, I found another new fruit. I'm pretty sure it is a pear.
Pomegranate blooms covering the tree.
Our tomato plants in the front are gigantic.
Just in case you missed the RED tomato in the previous picture. It's only May!!
Plenty more to come too!
Our bell pepper plants are not large, but the fruit sure is.
Our pumpkin plants are getting bigger too. Notice the leaves that are in the sun and those that are in the shade. We have to be super diligent about watering down here or else they will all be droopy!
Last, but not least I found these in the garden too! Asian pears. Yum yum yum!
Totally fun to find all of this new fruit! We thought we hit the jackpot with all of the fruit last fall. We have 14 different types of fruit trees in our yard. I have a lot of work cut out for me as I cannot see it go to waste. If you have ideas of what to do with all of it, please do share!
Have a great Thursday! This week has flown by and it is awesome!

14 different kinds of fruit! I'm jealous. That's awesome. I think I would dehydrate as much as possible so it can last longer!
ReplyDeleteIt's a garden paradise down there!
