Letterpress class
Last Thursday, I drove into San Francisco to attend a class put on by one of my favorite bloggers. I wasn't completely star struck like when I met one of the bloggers of another blog I follow closely. You know who you are and you are awesome! :) I'm such a nerd, bloggers are my celebrities. Anyway, I'm not sure if it was because I knew I was going to meet her, because I didn't want to be obnoxious, or because of my nerves for the whole experience. Speaking of nerves, oh man, had I realized what I was signing up for, I don't think I would have done it alone. The class was in San Francisco, which is about an hour drive with no traffic from my house. The distance, the notion of horrible traffic, and driving/parking in a city I do not know at all was stressful to say the least. I finally got into the city and as I drove into the Mission district, I see cops and their cars EVERYWHERE! Lining the streets, in clumps, just everywhere. It was May Day and they were doing serious crowd control for all of the rallies/protests. As if I wasn't already stressed out. Anyway, either May Day brought out all of the "culture" or I have not seen enough any culture in the valley, but my eyes were wide and I did my best to not have my jaw drop. That being said, I miss the diversity I was accustomed to seeing for sure. Anyway, back to the reason I was in SF, the Letterpress class. Like I said, I got to attend a class put on by this blog and I was just so excited! I have always seen that she held classes, but never was able to just take a quick trip to San Fran on a Thursday evening. I am rambling. Let me finish by saying that it was fun!
We immediately walked into the studio with swag bags at each seat. I forgot about this part, kind of fun. (I put the mini piñata on the table for Cinco de Mayo and Calvin won't stop asking if I have filled it yet.)
There were about 30 in the class and I happened to pick the lucky seat which meant I had to go first. She gave a quick, and I mean 2 minutes quick, intro to the workings of the letterpress and then I was put on the spot to give it a try. It is not rocket science, but it did take a little finesse. :)
In less than 2 minutes I had 10 birthday cards pressed. If only I had an extra 2-4k to drop on a letterpress, my card making time would get exponentially faster! Just kidding, I don't want a letterpress, but they do make beautiful things.
Jordan and her husband cleaning the letterpress for the next card to be made.
I tried to take a picture so you could see the texture, but you'll just have to believe me.
What a fun night!
Thank you, Oh Happy Day!
Thank you, Mike for holding down the fort! You are the best!

I love letterpress! I studied it a bit when I was in publishing school. Sounds like loads of fun Lindsay, I'm so glad you got to do it!
ReplyDeleteWas thinking of you and wishing you could have come with me!! Would have been way more fun!
DeleteI would have loved it! We need to plan a ladies crafting weekend with Cortney :-)
DeleteToo cool! I should take a class. I'll look into it during my "off season." If you lived in Seattle we could invest in one together one day. :)
ReplyDeleteYour little guy is plenty, in my opinion.
