Sprinkler

We have a morning routine at home.  I will not bore you with the details, but let's just say that it is not a relaxing, make a latte, and read the newspaper kind of routine.  There are lots of "friendly" reminders to finish their chores (brushing teeth, getting changed, making bed, etc.), a lot of fight breaking up, and a whole lot more hustle and bustle done by me.  Getting a break from the morning routine is glorious.  However, there is one part of the morning routine that makes me smile.

It happens to involve running through sprinklers!!  (a.k.a "Sprink-ga-ger" to Joel)  This is the neighbor's sprinklers that go off at 8:20, just perfect for every morning as we walk to school.  It has become a game and me taking away sprinkler privileges means you have done some serious wrong.  :)

Actually, there is more to the routine.  They play "King of the Rock" as well.

And then there is this.  I love this.  I wish this happened every moment of the day.

Each morning after we drop Hannah off, Calvin is kind of a big grump. This particular morning, as Hannah was walking into class he held his arms out and said in his wimpy voice, "Hannah, I wuv you!"  It was the cutest thing ever.  As we started to walk away, he said, "I like playing with Hannah so much, Joel is not as fun as Hannah."   It was at that moment I fiiiinally realized that he is just sad to have Hannah leave.  So, as we were walking home I encouraged him to be a big brother to Joel like Hannah is the big sister to him.  He needed to invite Joel to run and hold hands and play King of the Rock.  It was a defining moment for the both of us.

I wasn't super happy with my sprinkler pictures the first day, so I tried again the next.

Uh-oh.  Calvin didn't get to go through the sprinkler first this time.

This boy.

He eventually got over it with the help of big sis.

And what do you know...on the way back home, this happened.  (I'm so glad I had my camera!)  Proud, proud mommy moment.

Have a great weekend, friends!
