Bison BBQ Birthday

It was a bison extravaganza Saturday evening.

He was super excited for all of his friends to come over for his "birday"

I told him I wanted a picture of his bison shirt I made and so he got up on the table and puffed out his chest.  Thank you, Joel!

Of course, I had to base the menu off of bison.  Buffalo mozzarella appetizer, "buffalo" burgers (Didn't want to spend the money on real buffalo for a 3 year old.  I might be a food snob, but my kids are not yet!), and Chinese-style buffalo wings to round out the buffalo theme.  We also served a harvest salad with butternut squash and caramelized onions that was all the rage.  Maybe a blog about that the next time I make it.

Found this cardboard bison head on etsy and could not pass it up.  It will find its permanent residence in the boys room when I get around to do the final décor in their room.

The kids made their masks.  It was not as self-explanatory as I was hoping, but they turned out in the end!

My bison cupcakes were finished with cashew horns.  In the event that one of my children wants a walrus party, I already have walrus cupcake skills down too.  Just look at this picture upside down!  Haha.

He sang to himself and it is the cutest thing ever.

Joel was gifted some wonderful toys that he LOVES.  He brings them all wherever he goes, even if it's to the bathroom.  It is so cute!

S'more time with homemade grahams.  It was a little over the top, but I had to do something with the bison cookie cutter I bought!!  After this second dessert, the parents joked with me that they were going to throw a Red Bull party and they were inviting us.  Haha.

The party went late into the evening and I am so thankful for this stage of our life.  When we had only Hannah, we would extend her so much when we were out.  As the babies increased in number, that stopped and we were leaving other's houses by 8 at the very latest.  It is so fun to be able to hang with our friends later now!  It also helped that we could put Ava down at home, knowing she wouldn't be bothered by the kids' noise.

Joel had so much fun and kept asking, "Am I 3?"  We kept telling him, when you wake up tomorrow you will be 3.  He was so excited to be 3.  On Sunday, he just kept telling us, "I'n a big boy now, I'n 3."  Or, "I want to take a shower by myself because I'n a big boy, I'n 3."  I love it!

I now get to get back to my non-bison crafting too!  I have so much going on and I will share it soon!

  1. Such a cute bison birthday! Well done, sistah. I thought you made that cardboard bison head and I was going to call you to say, "girl, you crazy!"

PLEASE tell me there is a video of Joel singing to himself. Remember when Calvin did that on his 3rd (?) birthday?!
