Freezer paper crafting
I have been doing a lot of fabric paint and freezer paper crafting lately. It is so easy and the possibilities are endless. It appears all of my latest projects are Seahawks, but I also did do Joel's bison shirt for his party. That was the easiest of all.
You will need 5 things. Freezer paper, fabric paint, whatever clothing/fabric you are painting on, an iron, and a paintbrush. Freezer paper is the key here, there is a plastic coating on one side that when ironed will stick to the fabric.
This first project is simple. All I wanted was the Seahawk logo in white on my blue sweatshirt. First, trace the image onto the freezer paper and cut it out. Next, iron on the pieces of freezer paper that you still want the sweatshirt to be blue.
Last, you paint the whole image and peel back!
Note: the paint does take some time to dry. Follow the instructions for dry time on the paint, do not just take the freezer paper off right away! :)
Voila! (I seriously debated posting this picture, but you guys need to see reality going on in my house. This is it!!)
A bit harder is an image with multiple colors. :) This is what got the freezer paper crafting rolling. When I was in Seattle, I wanted a shirt that was pretty similar to this, but they didn't have my size! So, I had to make my own. It was a much cheaper option, as I grabbed this t-shirt when they were on sale for $5 at Target.
Since this shirt is gray, I first painted the whole shape of the Seahawk head white, then laid the freezer paper image down where I wanted the image to still be white. Then, I painted the blue parts.
If you didn't notice, you can see that I forgot to iron on the second white stripe beneath the beak. Oops! So, I found my freezer paper cut out, used it as a stencil and painted in the white stripe. Mistakes can be fixed!!
There is a fourth color in this image, and that is the lime green eye. I left that white also, so the lime green could easily be seen. I painted that last. Voila! The shirt I wanted, in the size I needed!! :) Go Hawks!!
This is my last project. Calvin had RANDOMLY asked me to buy him some leggings and I quickly said no. Only to realize later (after he kept asking), that he wanted football pants to go with his jersey. I thought that this was a very creative thing to ask for and we are also building his dress-up clothes collection, so I couldn't say no! I decided it would only make sense for Joel to also have a pair.
To start, you first cut out a bunch of these tulip-like shapes out of freezer paper. I traced an online image and stacked the freezer paper and cut out like 5-6 of these at a time. Then, you iron them down the side of the legging. I am a non-measurer and eyeballed the spacing. Some of the leggings I did had 19 tulips down the side, some had 18, but who is counting anyway? You also have to iron two long strips of freezer paper along both sides of the tulips. My freezer paper just so perfectly happened to be as wide as a 3T legging is long. Then, you paint!! I did white first thinking that it would make the lime green show better. I also did two lime green coats.
Taking off the freezer paper is so fun! If you look carefully, you'll notice that the lines are not perfect. You can see white paint lines under the green in the tulips. You can fix it, or you can leave it! I left it!!
Voila! Football pants complete.
I couldn't post about these pants without a model...
I realized later, that football pants only go to the knees. So, at some point, I will hem them. For picture's sake, I folded them under.
There were so many I could have posted, but had to choose only a handful.
Could have taken the washi-taped picture on our wall down, but again, this is our life exactly as you see it. Random art and pictures taped to our walls. (I feel a future blog post coming on.) :)
So, let's be honest, if I were playing football, this is the type of player I'd want to line up against.
He is fiercely cute!
Since I'm all about showing you the reality of my messy house, I must tell you that after I was done taking these pictures of Joel (we're talking 3 minutes max!), I found Ava having a good ole time by herself, splashing in the TOILET! Gross! Some of you have got the wrong impression of me and think I have it all together. I would say that many of the things that I do are often at the expense of cleaning up after an un-observed one year old. Do you remember the tomatoes? Granted, I was vacuuming, but still. That was a mess! Haha!
It is time for you to get some freezer paper and fabric paint and you can also make the things that you can't find!
Happy crafting!
Cute!
ReplyDeleteYou should get them tall socks to wear! Then you won't have to hem. :)
