NorCal Kids Triathlon

Well, I'm making good on my promise with another blog today.  And this one promises A LOT of pics as we were a bit trigger happy.  It's hard to contain your excitement, especially when this girl was SO EXCITED!!

Signed Hannah up for her very first triathlon and she was stoked to say the least.  With one practice session the weekend previous, we got all of the preconceived notions that it was going to be easy out of the way and she was ready to race!

Hannah's swim team buddy was also at the race.

They did 50 yards in the pool.

Second to come out of the pool, this girl rocked it!!

2 mile bike

All smiles every time she passed us.  So cute!

She took off on her 1/2 mile run and finished strong.

It was seriously SO fun to watch her compete and have so much fun!  She BEGGED us to do another one.  I remember doing kid tris when I was younger, not this young, but I was a little less enthusiastic.  Her high-energy, high-emotion self is contagious!

I hate to taint her first triathlon with this, but as much fun as this was, Mike and I saw some things that were cray (at least to us!).   6 and 7 year olds and older in one piece tri suits, aerodynamic wheels for 12 year olds, and moms literally holding their crying kid's hand and pulling them around the run course so they would go faster (possibly so they could place), and the list goes on.  I love triathlons, but as if the sport isn't already over the top, this was just ridiculous.  I definitely told Mike that night, if I ever get like that he needs to kick me.  Serious.

Fortunately, Hannah's excitement to race as well as big smile (indicating she was having fun), is what I mostly remember.  Because when they are kids and they are having fun, it's going to carry over into a love of the sport.  And when they love something, they work hard at it.  And when they work hard they are going to be proud of what they accomplished as well as do their best to get better.  At the end of the day, that's what you want for them.

Have a great wednesday!
