Baseball analogies
Parenting is like baseball. (Baseball with a tennis racket and toy basketball in this case.)
You step up to the plate to make contact with the ball every time.
You keep your focus.
You step into it.
And you do it will all your might.
Just making contact feels really good. Homeruns, they are icing on the cake.
Other times, you swing and miss or the ball goes foul. The nice thing is that as long as you step up to the plate, another ball comes. Another chance, another opportunity. Last night, the kids couldn't do anything right. They were too loud, too crazy, too wild, too too too. My threshold was low, energy depleted. I lacked in all necessary areas of parenting-- grace, patience, calmness, and certainly a sense of humor. It's after those days, I am so thankful for more chances. Even though I will never bat 1.000, every time I step up to the plate my goal is always the same, to make contact. And every so often, I'll hit it out of the park.
Good word. Step up!
