Ripe for the picking
How 'bout dem apples? And plums and tomatoes?
Last weekend we did a serious harvesting of produce. We are trying to eat as much of it fresh as we can, but even when the kids fill themselves full of plums and apples every day, we still can't finish it all before it goes bad. We have already made tomato sauce and the plan is to make applesauce too.
We bought an extra freezer in February for our beef and it's a good thing we did because we will be using it to freeze all that we can't finish. Did you know apples freeze? Peel, core, and slice and they can be frozen. You can't take them out and eat them raw, but you can use them for apple pies. I have frozen apricots, meyer lemon juice, meyer lemon slices, and figs. There is probably not enough room for much more. We have a bunch of tomatoes ripe again too. First world problems. I am so thankful.
I guess you know what we're doing this weekend. Hope you have a great one too!
