Fearless

It is a hot one today in the Silicon Valley so we went to the pool to cool off.  We have been swimming for quite some time and as you know my kids are quite the little fish.  However, Joel has been the most timid so far and quite fearful of swimming by himself (even though he can) and jumping in without holding a hand.  When I was away last weekend, Mike told me that Joel said he wanted to go off the diving board so he climbed up there, walked to the end, and turned right back around.  I was very surprised he said he wanted to since he usually knows his limits.  Anyway, today we made big leaps of progress (literally) and I am so proud of him.  Something happened that gave him the confidence to jump unassisted and I was so excited because obviously we knew he could, he just had to believe it too.

Then he got super confident.  I didn't think he'd do it.  The boy who would not jump in without holding my hand for months!!

He proved me wrong.  As soon as he came up he said, "I did it!!  I want to do that again!"

And he did.  Again and again.  And each time I was just as proud as the first.

It is one of life's great joys.  Seeing your child overcome a fear.  Watching their confidence soar.  Raising kids has its moments, but it is so so so rewarding.

Have a great weekend!
