Birthday traditions

With a summer birthday, my birthday celebrations always involved being outside and water.  It was perfect for me.  Mike was always jealous of my summer birthday, until we moved down to Cali.

It's been two years of beach perfection for Mike's birthday, and crossing my fingers, the tradition will continue on.

Of course, if you stood in the water too long it felt like those post-workout ice baths we did in the river.  Brr.  Fortunately, it was warm enough that a quick towel off and snack in the sun, gave you the warmth to go back in.

Caught this little man dancing.  In his own world.

Not loving the new suit, or possibly the ruffles.

But loving running around in the water!

Always chasing this one around.  She's gotten kinda quick too.

Mike's other birthday traditions:

My grandma's Lemon Bundt cake.  The cake goes against my food philosophy, but he knows I love him and will make it.  Artificial colors, hydrogenated oils...you know, a lot of processed and not real food.

Lemon Bundt Cake
Cake
1- 18.25 oz. Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme cake mix
1- 3.4 oz. box instant lemon pudding mix
1/4 cup lemon juice ( 1 lemon)
4 eggs slightly beaten
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
2/3 cup vegetable oil

Glaze
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tsp. grated lemon zest
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1 cup powdered sugar

1. Combine cake mix and pudding mix.
2. In measuring cup, put lemon juice in and add enough cold water to make 2/3 cup.  Mix in eggs and lemon extract.  Add to cake mixture.
3. Add oil and stir until smooth, about 6 minutes.
4. Bake for approximately 35-45 minutes in an oiled bundt pan at 350 degrees until top is golden.
5. Mix all ingredients of glaze together.
6.  Poke holes in top of cake and add glaze.

Also, a new tradition started last year, a WOD involving his birthdate and age.
This year, we did:
1 round of 25 wall balls, 33 power cleans, 82 air squats, 33 dead lifts, 25 overhead squats

It was a super fun day, but it sure wore me out!  I was OUT on the couch during naptime yesterday.

Happy birthday to my handsome hubby and happy monday to all of you!
