Garden helper

The minute I grab a shovel and start digging, a little girl runs after me and points to the shovels so she can join.  The mornings are cold, but this week the highs are in the low 70s and it is perfect weeding weather.  We are prepping for this year's garden already and I am hoping we'll beat the heat and actually get some leafy greens this spring.

The day after we got back from our trip, it also got up to about 70 and so I went outside to work in the garden and my little barefoot helper came along.  She never left my side that day.  It was her first experience in the dirt and she loved it.

She stayed with me and gardened for an hour.  She was a filthy, dirty mess.

I mean DIRT-Y!  All in her mouth too.  Mike can't stand it.

But I have a term for this....the price of progress!

I got all of the weeding done that I wanted to and we have a big yard which is predominantly garden.  Cleaning dirty clothes and giving her a bath was a small price to pay for all that progress.

That is definitely something worth smiling about!
