Kiwis
Our dreaded kiwis came back this year. When they come, so do the rodents as evidence of half eaten fruit all over our patio. I was pretty tired of cleaning it up every day. It was due time to get rid of the food source.
People think I am exaggerating when I say we have a thousand kiwis. We told the kids that for every kiwi they picked up, they would get 1 cent. So we were going to figure out approximately how many we had.
You should have heard them squealing at first as Mike showered kiwis down for them to grab. It was like a kiwi piñata and easter egg hunt in one. They were motivated! The oldest one the most. Her goal was 200 kiwis.
Well, when all was said and done, this was Hannah's bucket. 901 kiwis. $9.01 richer. She was thrilled.
Calvin got $5.19 and Joel got $2.22. And if you do the math, that is over 1600 kiwis. And if you will believe me now, we didn't even get them all. The worst part, the kiwis aren't even ripe. Even if we were to keep them for them to ripen, they are so small it is too much work for the little amount of fruit in each one. I don't like wasting, but these ones are getting kicked to the curb for the cat and mouse to pick up. Rest assured, there are about 19 other fruit varieties in my orchard and I don't waste a single bit of that produce (I am now inspired to tag my garden posts for easy look up because there are so many of them)!
Happy tuesday!
This reminded me of one of Calvin's quotes. "Them not party lights. Them is for the rats."
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear I'm not the only 'depression era wife' who has to put some things in the curb.
ReplyDeleteI'm no longer making chicken stock. I know everyone says it's the best but I've done it 3 times and decided it's not worth it.
Looking forward to a braces update.
